Kabul: The US State Department emphasized on Thursday Washington’s commitment to preventing Afghanistan from becoming a terrorist hub again. “We are dedicated to ensuring that Afghanistan never becomes a base for terrorism,” stated Matthew Miller, the department’s spokesperson in a Washington briefing. He reiterated the message conveyed to the Taliban that they must deny sanctuary to terrorist groups like Al Qaeda or ISIS-K. Miller also assured US allies of vigilant monitoring and readiness to address emerging threats from the region.
“We remain vigilant against the evolving threat of these terrorist groups, and our global coalition to defeat ISIS and the C5+1 help intensify our efforts to monitor terrorist threats from the region and prevent their ability to raise funds, travel, and spread propaganda,” he said.
The C5+1, which includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the United States, serves as a diplomatic platform for addressing regional issues such as security and economic development.
This statement coincides with repeated assertions from Afghan leaders affirming their commitment to preventing the use of Afghan territory for attacks against any other nation.
